The AYSO Advanced Referee Course will be offered in Palo Alto on Saturday October 31 and Sunday November 1
This course prepares referees for more challenging U16 and U19 games. Topics to be covered include:
- Understanding the advanced game
- Advanced offside
- Fouls in the advanced game
- Misconduct: players, substitutes, and others
- Reading the advanced game
All AYSO Intermediate Referees are eligible. In order to achieve certification as an AYSO Advanced Referee the candidate must also meet additional requirements which are described at www.aysohelp.org including number of games refereed, Advanced Referee exam, assessments as referee and assistant referee, fitness test, and service units.
This course includes an optional Law Review to be scheduled one evening during the week prior to the course, a full day of instruction on Saturday October 31 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the Advanced Referee exam to be given Sunday November 1 at 9:00 am. The course will be held at Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto and includes time spent indoors as well as outside.
We utilize a variety of AYSO instructors during the course. Tom Bobadilla, AYSO National Referee Program Administrator, FIFA Referee, and USSF National Assessor will be flying up from southern California to teach the module on Reading the Advanced Game. (Tom’s presentation will be open to anyone who is interested; not just referees attending the Advanced Referee Course.)
Please contact Steve Eglash, Area 2A Director of Referee Instruction, seglash@pacbell.net, 650 799-2267 to sign up (required) or with any questions. Advance registration is required. In order to ensure a high-quality experience we will limit the class to 20 referees.
