Divisions
AYSO Region 108 runs both Boys and Girls Divisions for ages ranging from Under 5 (U5) to Under 19 (U19). Other than our two youngest divisions (U5 and U6), all divisions are separated by two years of age and the cut-off is birthdates before or after July 31. To determine in which age group your child would play, please see our division age chart.
Teams
AYSO Region 108 is a recreational league with the primary intent of ensuring kids have fun while getting exercise and developing soccer specific skills. While not a requirement, over 90% of players in the league are Belmont/RWS residents.
U5 Division
For our youngest players (born between September 10, 2004 and September 12, 2005), we offer the program on Saturdays, where kids will have a skills training session followed by a small-sided (typically 3 versus 3) game.U6 Division
Players born between August 1, 2003 and July 31, 2004 will experience a new format for the 2009 season as we are moving to an assigned teams system for our U6 division. As with our older divisions, teams in the U6 division will be gender-specific. Teams will have an evening practice during the week, and a game on Saturday. Games will use a 3 versus 3 format that allows the kids more "touches on the ball" as they continue their development, learn more about teamwork, collaboration, and getting along with others.
Boys and Girls Recreational Soccer Leagues for U8 through U19
Beginning with our Under 8 Division (U8), teams are formed using the AYSO National computer system based on coaches confidential player ratings in an effort to balance each team’s abilities to compete. As a result, each team has some higher skilled players, some average skilled players and some beginners. The numbers of players on each team can vary and the number of players fielded for a game also varies by age group. This helps the players to develop as they grow. For specific age group rules, see special rules.
Practices for these divisions are typically held twice per week and there is one game per week on Saturday. Practice days are selected by the coach. For U8 through U10, games are typically played against other Belmont/RWS teams. For U12 and older, in addition to other Belmont/RWS teams, regular season games are also played against other local AYSO Region teams such as Redwood City, San Carlos, Foster City, etc. Region 108 regular season games do not involve travel outside of the local area.
Team Formation, Practices, and Games
Teams are formed mid-August and assigned to coaches. Practices for the Fall Season begin in late August, first game is in early September and the last games conclude the second or third weekend in November.

*AYSO game rules allow for a substitution break at approximately halfway through each half. The referee will blow the whistle at an appropriate break in the play (not necessarily at the exact half-of-half time on the clock) in order for the substitutions to take place. This is not intended as a team break, but rather a quick swap of those players that are being substituted.
